Byron's Hot Dogs is opening a place on Madison Street, next to the Starbucks (in the space formerly occupied by Prep Kitchen....already gone).  Finally some competition for Portillo's.  Nothing there yet but a sign in the window.

Is there still a sign in Thyme & Honey's window too?
Hope Byron's has better luck.

I don't think Byron's is competition for Portillo's!

Portillos is sooo overpriced and not very good food anyway. The Hot Dogs the park serves are Eisenbergs and they are phenonminal. Still think for the money and for a quick dog (albeit not the best quality) Parkys are a good buy.

I like Parky's going down, it's just afterwards I can't handle the effects of cheap meat (they are not all beef).

Never heard of Gold Coast Dogs?  They are downtown (and I don't mean downtown Forest Park), right on Wabash between Randolph and Lake, as well as some other locations.  Good enough, but the best hot dogs come from local places that use the all-beef dogs (e.g Vienna and anything else kosher).

Hot Dougs - I'm sorry - but, my mother's day lunch from my oldest son was supposed to be at Hot Dougs - I mean, common! They deep fry their french fries in duck grease/oil! Hot Dougs - a dive hot dog joint - but even better....  It's on Roscoe just south of Addison.

Then there's Swank Frank and their deep fried twinkies - moving to Logan Square only to be replaced by - yes - another bank to go with the two that are already taking up space on an excellen 6 corner intersection. MAN - does one intersection really need three banks? Anyway.

BUT - I'm sorry, the absolute best Hot Dog Joint (yes - deserving of capital letter titling) is Red Hot Lover's in Ann Arbor Michigan - best hot dogs ever - EVER. Sorry, I feel very strongly about this.... :)

Isn't Gold Coast Dogs also under the L tracks on Division and Sheffield?

Byron's is Byrons. No competition for other places. In my opinion.

To tell the truth, I'll just be glad that there is a another option for hot dogs in Forest Park besides Portillo's.

The best used to be Henry's A Meal In Itself over on Ogden in Berwyn.  They were yummy (to a teen's stomach anyways).

Like jujube's comment, a Gold Coast dog is always a good choice.....along with a side of Pepcid :)

Wabash between Randolph and Lake

That is the best location. Some other Gold Coasts use nacho type sauce on the fries. Not this place. It's more like Merkt's cheese.

They deep fry their french fries in duck grease/oil!

No no no! It's supposed to be great - then again - I'll let you know. My oldest is taking me there for a late mother's day present. But it's supposed to be great! The fries that is - everything else too! Really

Sounds like a plan - it will likely come next weekend.. maybe we should start a resturaunt reviews section... you know - I hear tell it that the Wishbone has opened up on Roosevelt - I believe in OP - and it's their original chef/brother (it's owned by northern born/ southern raised brothers - although I may have that backwards)... that's what I hear
at least, that it has opened up. No need to go into the city anymore for "healthy" southern influenced cooking...

Yup - I believe a resturaunts and good eats section might be called for...

I think Portillo's, Buona, and Carms all have good beefs....bad thing is none of them are cheap....A place with good food at a good price would kill em all.....Im assuming (and you know what that means) Byrons will be in the same ballpark or maybe worse...as for Parky's their dogs are only ok but everyone seems to love their greasy fries...I included....Guess time will tell.

Just came back from a late lunch at Byrons.  Had a hot dog combo meal ($5.19).  I like my hot dog with EVERYTHING.  What I didn't realize was that everything at Byron's is a salad on top of your hot dog!!!  (in order of how it was "built") Bun, hot dog [vienna of course], mustard, relish [electric green], onions, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes [5 slices!], dill pickle slices, celery salt and sport peppers on the side)   It was delicious.  Fries were hot and crispy and fried in no-trans fat oil.  Plus you get a bottomless beverage [the cup had a bottom, but refills are free].

Other half had chili dog and he devoured it!

We will be back.  Friendly staff there as well.
