there's a piece of news at the wednesday journal - it's a doozie and folks are riled up. here's the link, but the story is not my point.
went online to read the comments - 20+, w/most folks using their name and writing thoughtfully. and you can bet $, there will be letters galore.

which got me thinking: i think our town has had significantly more and better letters to the editor in 2009. plus a certain amount of online feedback to various review stories.
hey, even the mayor commented once.

so, are we moving toward 'owning' our own town? paying attention, publicly asking/demanding that our voices are considered?
i'm especially hoping to hear from the yutes in the community.

any comments on the Letter to Editor re: Harvard improvements?

"One neighbor who complained by phone to the village was told that there were public forums. Really?"

also, first letter is charming pitch for Ed's.

First, you just gotta love Dave.

As to the letter on Harvard, just consistently shows how us lowly citizens have no input as our input is stupid or useless to the brain trust that runs the village. Gotta wonder if they thought anything through or just took the paid consultants advice without actually looking at what they are affecting with their choices. Sounds like no one drove the route to see. Idiots.

I feel bad for the Parishioners of First United Church located at Elgin and Harvard. In addition to Sunday service, the Church has their sales and events also. Parking, loading and unloading will be more difficult for everyone.

Come to think of it, that is the Church that CUinFP has their rummage sales. If you recall the Mayor kicked CUinFP out of the Community Center which led to the move to First United.

wondering about her specific questions.

altho all the rage, i too hate those 'traffic calming' bumpouts. they border on dangerous in the winter.
and giving up parking spaces for medians? i do think the neighbors should have been consulted. i wish we cared about resident parking as much as we care about our bar owners.

Drove past the "median strip" that has been started at the Desplaines end of Harvard. WHY????? It totally eliminates parking on Harvard for that last block, which is multi-family buildings. Where are people visiting supposed to park? Can't park on Desplaines.

Did anyone do a reality check on this project before signing the dotted line on the contracts? Nothing stupider than making the roads skinnier.

Unfreakinbelievable.

At%20a%20loss.
so, 8 spaces at elgin and maybe another 8 at desplaines?
it is rather unimaginable that an older urban burb continues to both remove existing and prohibit new residential parking, but is enthusiastically willing to demolish residents' homes for bar parking.

Are these improvements being made so that the Mayor or one of the Commissioners could get a kick-back, under the table cash or a nice campaign contribution? Maybe I am naive but there doesn't seem to be any other reason the village would be spending money on this project.
