call the housing cop and Neighborhood Watch. these are your local resources for legal and safety matters. they'll have successful organizing ideas - y'all should feel safe in your neighborhood, and empowered.
but, trying to get all the folks on earth to behave as you wish is not their area of expertise.

Watch for and report crimes as they are happening.
If the police have enough evidence it will warrant further action.

Otherwise it's all unsubstantiated hearsay.

Arne asked: "Who's responsible for the quality of the tenant? The landlord."

Quality people would be responsible for themselves, period. Take pride in where they live. Become valued members of the community they reside, whether tenant or owner.

christ on a cracker, pie, neighbors fight in river forest, hinsdale, and gated communities.
mostly because they 'feel' their neighbors don't have proper pride, or consideration, or share the same values.

But...they do take charge and responsibility - as they see fit.  If they are not fit for the community, the landlord must be held accountable as he/she is enabling such.

Sorry, Citizen, but the expressed value of "quality people" being responsible for themselves can be traced back milenia, and as recently as Ghandi and ML King.

Dr. King dreamed of a day when folks would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. He wasn't excusing the mopes hanging out on the sidewalks threatening the welfare of everyone else.

The s**theads in the houses we're all complaining about are lowlifes not because of their skin color, but because their character sucks, most likely due to their parent sucking.

Scum is scum, whether you're shanty Irish, low life Italian, black, hispanic or whatever.

LOL...WTF does race or home ownership status have to do with this?

There are sh¡theads on Beloit (wow, imagine that), there's obviously no block captain, so an anonymous letter was sent around in an attempt to shame this resident into becoming a model citizen.

everything. it's our legacy. it's why the village doesn't want me to have a parking pad.

it's not polite to attack folks in racial terms these days so about 15 years ago folks started talking in code, i.e. renters, density, overcrowding.
these are nifty terms that allow us to vent our anger/fear about 'others' - whether racial, class or litterbugs.

it's why zoning is our biggest dept, after police and fire.
this framing came from the very top of our leadership and has, in fact, become the law of our land.

Boy did this thread take a segway.

It started with little information about a drug dealer at 824 Beloit. Of course, no one can come up with the anonymous letter handed out so none of us are privy to what this person had to say.

Please, let's get back on track. We already all know that the village plays favorites for handing out variances. And what's even scarier is the salary of one of our building department people: "Now, as the director, Teets is collecting an additional $1,000 a month, putting his salary at $98,930, according to the contract. That pay was made effective retroactive to Aug. 1 when Teets assumed the director's title on an interim basis." That's a lot of money for what again?

Forest Park/Proviso Township/Cook County/Illinois will never change for the better in the time we live here.  The social problems are so great that no grass roots initiative can fix them.

The problems we see don’t stem from race, but rather dependence.  Social programming in the past 50 years has run so amuck that we have created several generations of people so dependant on the government for their existence that people who are on the low end of the social economic scale have no need or desire to take any personal responsibility.

Our taxes pay them so they won’t have to work demeaning jobs, we buy formula for their babies, we feed their children in the schools, and we pay their rent and/or their mortgage.   We even clean up after them when they throw their garage on the street.

Now that the electorate has learned that they can simply vote themselves the treasury, you can expect it to get much worse.

Had there been zero help the social problems would merely be different.  We would have even worse problems with ghetto life and riotous, terrorist activities from the have-nots.

So...no letter?  Guess this entire thread is moot.

From what little DC posted about the notice, I wouldn't say it was an attempt at shaming the resident into changing. They've been s**theads all along. I think the intent of the flyer was to notify parents of the Middle Schooler's that drugs are being sold to their kids from that location. I've heard about their "dealings" for about 2 years and know first-hand that those yutes and their friends are classic delinquents and neer-do-well's. (One of them broke off a mirror from one of our vehicles a couple of summers ago.)
The flyer was appropriate. It doesn't matter if the person(s) who distributed it have proof or not. Anyone who knows the neighborhood, knows about that crew and what their activities are. It's about time that someone decided to bust them out publicly.
