I received a PM asking why FPF is so quiet of late and why we're not talking about the latest flooding adventures.
There is a Facebook group that's talking about it. The Review is sort of covering it. But FPF has seemingly lost traction. I suppose that's true. We've been defamed and marginalized? Still, there needs to be a place for venting. We're still here. I set up this area with no registration required. Guests can post. It will be closely moderated. NOT censored, just kept sewerage free. If you want people to know who's posting, you can either use a registered account or sign your posts. Otherwise, you'll appear as GUEST. That can get confusing, so we'll see how it goes. I moved past topics about water and sewers into this section. There's some good information in there. I know there are other threads about water and flooding and as I find them, they'll show up here too. A lot of what's going on on Facebook is rehash of stuff that's already here for anyone to see. We'll run this experiment and see what happens... Edited by watcher - 05/August/2011 at 11:42am |

My building no longer has a flooding problem because we had a wall built blocking off one of the two driveways leading into the garage, which is partially below grade. A special assessment worth the money.
On edit: My sympathies to those members who still face flooding problems. I am a member of that Facebook group and it's been busy of late. Edited by greatauntoftriplets - 05/August/2011 at 4:57pm |

Only appropriate posters, those who share the same pov, are truly allowed, along with their RAH RAHs. Others "defamed and marginalized". Don't quote me, but I often felt there was a little too much manipulation behind the curtain. Small talk is always welcome but often boring:)
As for the flooding, we put a very expensive control system in last Dec, those two warm days, haven't had any sewage or seepage and yes, we flooded twice last yr. Had to take all the walls below 4' down to the studs, lost a 4 yr old furnace, water heater and, like many people, things like old family pictures we cannot replace. It didn't make sense to do a desperately needed remodel without addressing the problem. At this time we haven't flooded but I still get that sick feeling inside whenever there's a heavy rain. When I got home from work Tues night. a large tree had literally broken in half, not lightening, the top half, at least 15' was lying upside-down blocking 15th St. There were no injuries or damage. There's a very tall, 1/2 dead tree on the Circle parkway, in front of the kiddie park on 16th, can see it from my back window. An accident waiting to happen? The Village does a great job trimming trees, cleaning up after storms but we've had so many storms with high wind gusts who can predict the next falling tree? Getting rid of the deadwood around town, referring to trees only, would be a good idea. Would not want to see it come down on somebody or the nearby home. |

The village spent the better part of 3 days removing a very big dead tree from our block.

Good, dc, I'm very aware removing a tree is hard, time consuming, dangerous work. The tree that came down on Tues night looked healthy enough, full of new growth, maybe soft wood or rotten within or fluke of nature, not a tree specialist. With these wind storms it's not just branches down anymore but trees down. To their credit, the clean-up was done within 24hrs. Just would like to see potential hazards on public property removed.

The tree on our block was on public property. The guy doing the work told my Dad they are trying to get to the dead trees asap.

If someone were to take the 2 (yes, 2) posts off, someone would say that the board was getting censored. Who's to say they are children?

I removed the guest privilege. We're back to "normal"...
Interestingly enough, there's been a flurry of new registrations from Spambots. The flood problem has been fixed. All it right with FoPa. |

I installed a very expensive Sasquatch Control system five years ago. It's worked GREAT! Worth every penny? But I still worry when the weather outside is feeling BigFooty. |

After watching the turds float by and scraping the same, probably not ours:), off the basement floor with a dustpan x2 last yr, my husband chose the system he saw installed by the "This Old House" crew at a home in River Forest. They don't do anything on the cheap. After the install, we were told "You ain't gonna flood", so far so good.

It was a flooding basement problem, maybe it was Park Ridge, pie, didn't watch it but know it was a local suburb. Think my husband may have linked it on FB, FP against flooding.

Can they do DNA on turds? It would take an interesting confluence of effluence to bring somebody else's into your basement. TOH definitely has experience with antique sewer systems. Some, in and around, Boston are still made out of wood. Still functioning, but very high maintenance and complicated to connect. They better be right about the ain't part. I wouldn't want you hunting ME down. (You warned them? Right?) |

Yes, you can. It would be one way of mapping our antiquated sewer system:) Always wondered where the back-up starts, the confluence of waters, don't forget the DEEP TUNNEL. What the H is going on with that?

Job security for Lawyers and consultants. Red tape with ACE and EPA. At least it's still McCook and Thornton. The completion dates just keep stretching. Phase I = proj. 2017. |

Our old family Dr is buried @ 16th and the road coming out of the cemetery, his grave is always under water. My mother met him through the Infant Welfare program in the late 30's. Good guy.

watcher, yes they can do DNA on turds, building assoc's use it to fine lazy dog owners. Any way back to hand bags.......... Flooding has been a bigger issue for the last three or four years in town west and north of us, but I don't think we will ever find what the cause is(besides the rain)

NEXT flood is here, so far our very expensive flood control system is doing its job or we'd be wading in knee high sewage. It was worth the investment. Couldn't wait for the Village to replace our antiquated sewer system and don't even know if it would be "The Fix". The french drain is also functioning well, its able to handle our clear water seepage along with the rainwater from our neighbor's overflowing gutters and leaky sump hose that keeps spraying water into the gangway. Knock on wood.
There's a home across the street, the family also had a similar system installed. This morning there was a collection of rainwater in the street but only in front of their house, it was just over the curb. Don't know if it had to do with the flood system or the pitch of the street. And what about those slow draining sewer covers, have they helped? Have a friend in Broadview, Salt Creek was up to her backyard fence this morning, now it's in her garage, yard and the grass in front is covered with water. The sandbags aren't helping very much. |

Who,did, you, use for,the flood control? We already have French drain tile in and out so that's good. It's just the stuff coming in through the floor drains and basement shower now. Luckily didn't get much today. Just bathroom, laundry room and around our pool table. We got all our stuff up before they got wet!
Cleaned up this afternoon and now finally sitting down after dinner. Ugh, I'm getting too old for this crap. |

Geitner(sp?) but the work was done by one of his sub-contractors. Called Tim Stefl for work recently, pleased with the work and price.
