Double posting this under "media" also.

Hello FP Forum,

I just wanted to say hello and officially register for the board. I'm the new editor of the Forest Park Review. I've put out five papers now, and I'm humbly learning every day. I've been a reader of FPF since 2010.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have and I'm always looking for news tips.

I want to make sure that I let you know about an upcoming event:

We're listening!

You're invited to Forest Park Review Reader Forum
Date: Tuesday, January 31, 2012
Time: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Location: Meeting Room, Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd., Forest Park, IL 60130

Gather with your neighbors and meet the editor, publisher and columnists in your hometown newspaper. Cookies and library-approved beverages will be served.

Please bring your ideas. What do you like about FPR? How can we improve?

If you can't attend, please feel free to email me at jlotus@wjinc.com or call 708.613.3325

at the library, tomorrow night, 7pm - be there or be square.

i've been hanging around newspapers for over 20 years and still see two major issues between readers and newspapers:
1) readers don't (really) understand how newspapers work.
2) newspaper writers don't (fully) appreciate the power they yield.
both impediments are solvable.

think of tomorrow night as 'customer complaint' night and/or a valuable opportunity to understand the workings of our local press.
have ideas on how the new online forum should behave? love to hear it.
want more Proviso news? can that/how can that happen?
want more 'positive'/less 'negative' news? let's kick it around.
meet Dan Haley (what does a publisher do?), Jean Lotus, our new editor (what does that job entail?) and columnists John Rice, Stephanie Keuhnert and me.

all residents, commenters, lurkers, susie sunshines and cranky pants welcome, including Finch :)

Unfortunately, this is the same date as my parents 58th wedding anniversary. I will be taking them out for dinner.

Hope you get a great turnout!

Say, how'd that FPR sit down with readers go, Sharon? Jean? Did the Mayor show up?
For your consideration

I thought it went well, some interesting points were made by the residents that came. Mr. Haley and Jean both responded well to the commendations made and gave solid (I thought) explanations why somethings worked the way they did. It is to bad that Forest Parkers did not show up, the Review and staff reached out to say how can we made your paper better, they listened only a few of us talked.  No mayor, he figures the post is all we need.
