my indiana daughter called in a panic...'i've been to three drugstores and all our out of Prevacid! they say the manufacturer doesn't have enough! will you check your walgreens?!'
so i did (rather promptly) and discovered the shelves were lacking Prevacid. so i asked the pharmacist what the deal was - he said there has been no Prevacid for two weeks, and calls the manager. the asst manager shows up and says there is no Prevacid and hasn't been for two weeks. I ask why that would be, but he only knows they order it every week but it is not being delivered - lately. but here's the really weird part. after i cajole him a bit he says. 'well, we're also out of Maalox and Excedrin for awhile.' Excedrin happens to be his choice of hangover remedies, so this is a real bummer. and then we looked around and there were many empty spaces where regular OTC meds should be. he only knows that 'it's been awhile' but had no explanation. no, i haven't googled yet (i wanted to talk to you guys first) but daughter reports that the internet states that indeed, there is no Prevacid, but no further info is provided. we're going to hell in that handbasket. heard anything? |

It's been going on for months. I remember hearing about it at Christmas. Something about it clumping and causing blockages? |

Is it just Prevacid or are other acid-inhibitors unavailable? Omerprazole (Prilosec) is the drug of choice where I work, might be a good substitute, ask the pharmacist.

wow.
@watcher. Christmas?!? that was awhile ago. @ logic. i asked the same question but daughter says Prilosec is a diff formula and advised it might take a few weeks to kick in. i believe she's going to ask dr. to renew previous script - that insurance won't pay for because it's (theoretically) available OTC. $100/mo, but appears worth it to her. @ dogcatcher. forgot your daughter was a pharmacist. the asst mgr kept saying Prevacid was not a recall, but i'm a bit shocked that Excedrin is in recall. and where is the Maalox? actually, feel like we're in a loooong line in 1970's Moscow. this situation seems very weird and abnormal, or at least i'm not prepared. and why in this world wouldn't there be a clear statement of conditions from the manufacturer? no, still haven't had time to google :) |
