There isn't a more knowledgeable person on this issue in the state than Rick Kuner. Knows the terminology, the history, and the industry standards. You'll come away well informed. And probably a bot  concerned.

In this case it means not steamrolling older, inner-ring suburbs for the convenience and peace-of-mind of commuters from the ex-suburbs. Not expanding existing roads without equal effort to provide better mass transit options. Not adding to long-term congestion and pollution by enabling urban sprawl. Not replicating the mistakes of the past. To not infringe on the quality of life nearer the city to maintain an illusion of detachment from the city that provides the livelihoods for the whole region. Distancing oneself from urban "problems" should not come at the expense of those who are dealing with those problems.

WOW, all of that? That may be exactly what they had in mind but the term still doesn't make much sense. Poor choice, IMHO.

See, on the Review blog, a couple of posters were scolded for their references to moving the Blue Line to Maywood. I sometimes drop a co-worker off there, after midnight, though she hasn't had any problems, there's almost always something going on even if it doesn't require a call to the FPPD. Have witnessed arguments, people screaming into cars, some getting tossed out of the terminal and panhandling. What is the purpose of extending it to Maywood, why not beyond?

I think the scold was for referencing MATC. It would have been unnecessary if MATC had explained his reasons for wanting the blue line extended to Maywood. There are enough valid ones he could claim... so as not to come across as myopic.

Why not beyond? That falls into the unrealistic expectations of our ex-urb dwellers. That they are entitled to all the conveniences of the city, without the inconveniences.
Opposition to extending rapid transit lines is mostly about keeping it difficult for "outsiders" to get there.

I'm always amazed when, after EIGHT years, people still have next to no idea what the issues and concepts are related to the Ike and Blue Line.

I'm out of town for a conference/vacation but I'll find time to pull together some of the reporting today or tomorrow. It's voluminous between the WJ/Pioneer and Chicago dailies.

Nice job of summarizing, watcher. (It's "exurbs," I think).

Awaiting with bated breath, try not to be too voluminous in your reportage, TY.

I highly doubt MATC, Hosty, Mannix, Gillian have ever ridden the CTA (in their adult lifetime).

IDOT, CTA officials to have town meeting on I-290 expansion near Oak Park

IDOT and CTA officials will have a town meeting with community residents on Oct. 29 to discuss plans for I-290 expansion near the Oak Park area. Read more in the release below.

State Senator Don Harmon announced today that Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider will appear at an October 29 town hall meeting he is convening to discuss the planned Eisenhower Expressway / I-290 reconstruction project. A top CTA official also will participate.

The town hall, to be held at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School from 7:30-9:00 p.m., will provide the community an opportunity to hear directly from Schneider, appointed IDOT Secretary in October 2011 by Governor Pat Quinn. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the agency’s proposed alternatives for reconfiguring lanes along a stretch of the Eisenhower between Racine Avenue and Mannheim Road...

VOP YouTube about IKE expansion

Sure seems like the bridge on Harlem will have to be a lot steeper to accommodate the right exits. Steeper than Circle? Either that or the bridge will begin its climb at Adams, submerging the properties along Harlem into darkness.
