Why can't Forest Park initiate something like this program for rental properties? No one in office or employees qualified to try?

Batavia expands crime-free rental housing

I think this type of program might require home rule powers. Batavia acquired home rule powers automatically when its population topped 25,000 residents in 2004.

In Nov. 2009, Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke told the local media “he would like to see the city use its home rule powers to annually inspect multi-family complexes in the city.”

At least two apartment complexes in the city, the media reported at the time, “have frequent reports of criminal activity."

By the way, Schielke, 63, who is serving his ninth term as mayor, is a former newspaper reporter who used to cover Batavia. He’s now a real estate appraiser.

Didn't the FPPD appoint an officer to monitor complaints/compliance in rental units a few yrs back? The program had a name (can't remember), it was based on policies enacted in other communities.

this the 2nd question that needs answering: where, exactly, is the crime (associated w/housing) in this town? data/evidence, please, or don't even start w/the pitch.

3-4 years ago it was 'in the big bldgs.'  a year ago it was 'in the two flats.'
mind you, this was ALL anecdotal because our village doesn't have a program to track crime, since the officer i spoke with was tracking 'crime' once a month w/paper & pencil.

we're going to base policy/a comprehensive plan on that crap? please.

We don't have answers do we? Because if we all keep out heads in the sand we will all be better off not knowing.

I know the 900 block of Thomas had major rental problems in a couple of different buildings. One man from the block even went to the village council about it.

What about the editorial in the Review a couple of weeks ago by the person that lives in a complex on DesPlaines?

The four flat next to me often has issues with their lovely tenants....until they can finally get rid of them.

A girlfriend of mine has issues with the rental property next to her. People use her yard as their garbage disposal (throw things over the fence).

Read the police reports ever? There's usually something there most weeks.

i have full-tilt nutz, trouble making owner-neighbors w/crazy baying dogs at 6:30am and 11pm.
and another owner-neighbor who dumps his flood waters onto my property cause he thinks it's unsightly to have that white PVC drain pipe along the side of his house. and too cheap to bury it. thank god his sump pump broke - the gods are just :)
in OP, my owner-neighbors were the in the vanguard of indigenous landscaping - omg, the whole damn place was wild and 8' high. meh, it's his property.

all probs are not rental.

No, they are not. But I bet with the 52% of rentals in Forest Park, they account for more police time then your neighbors.

Citizen, welcome to my life, as I sit typing and listening to the dogs across the street. Well, it could be summer, then I could smell them too.

If this were true, we'd be bombarded with statistics and data. But that would likely show that retail and alcohol related issues along with traffic incidents are the predominate consumers of police time. If we just got rid of the stores, bars and cars, we'd be sitting pretty eh?
