Anyone wondering what former Forest Park Review editor Jean Lotus is doing nowadays can log onto the new School Board Focus West website.
http://www.schoolboardfocuswest.com/about/ The website will shine a bright light on the details, personalities and practices related to several of our more troubled and corrupt school boards, and the people responsible for that corruption. |

Read the campaign cash article in the Review. Matt O'Shea came to the door when canvassing for the Mayor, remember he distinctly stated the Mayor supported Proviso Together. Maybe I should've asked him if he did too?

The mayor selectively supported Proviso Together. That's the crap of which I, and so many others, are tired. He supported/endorsed Medina & Wagner ONLY. He tacitly rejected Theresa Kelly, and thereby, the whole idea behind Proviso Together. We'll never know if that was a political calculation, a personal dislike of Ms. Kelly or just a cleverness on his part. It's too easy to say it no longer matters. It matters big time in the effort to "fix" our high schools and it displays what the so-called Anti-Calderone HALF of voters tried to convey as their argument for new leadership. The mayor put himself out there as our leader, but he failed to recognize and truly support this opportunity. Now, he wants credit for an endorsement he never made? With no explanation for his Quisling? I call that transparent and insulting? So Matt O'Shea was LYING? Color me shocked. |

In spite of the nonsense, they won, watcher. Still would have been unable to support their choice for a new leader, no regrets.

You've been VERY clear on that point! You might not have regrets, and farbeit from me to say you were wrong to judge Chris based on decade old music videos... I guess I should just be grateful that no tax dollars were spent (that we know of) to sway voters like the 1000 Beloit scheme? but we digress, as usual... the new website... It's great and all that the underbelly's being exposed... I'd also like to see some coverage of functional school boards for comparison. There is a spectrum of actions taken by these boards, not all of which is questionable. |

Local Schools represent 100s of million dollars in annual spending. They operate mostly under the radar. Media attention is near-completely focused on test scores and the occasional scandal. School funding in Illinois make the local dollars seem like easy pickings for the ethically indifferent. They represent patronage JOBS that provide political foot-soldiers and contracts that attract political sponsorships that feed organized politcal power. If the job of journalism it to bring awareness to its public, then the new website is trying to fill an under-reported need for public awareness. I think Jean is trying to provide the dots for people to connect about what is happening. So far, it has been heavy on what has happened and how, but is still processing what it means or leaving it to the readers to decide. Education politics has serious local impacts and local politics is spreading rapidly to control education dollars with questionable outcomes regarding actual Education. The waters are so muddied with the constant churn of NCLB, Common-core, High-stakes testing, Charters, Magnets, School Choice... Public education as we knew it has been changed forever, from outside and in. Heady stuff. |
