Early voting has begun in 10 communities. Stone Park, Northlake, Melrose Park, Forest Park, Maywood, Broadview, Bellwood, Berkeley, Hillside and Westchester.

For the first time there is an opportunity to break away from the patterns of the past and cast a hopeful vote in D209. The Proviso Together movement, that grew out of an informal group at The Brown Cow last November, needs and deserves your help and support.

If you need more information about the effort or wish to volunteer go to the
http://www.provisotogether.com/" rel="nofollow - Proviso Together website

Lastly, and most importantly, reach out to everyone you know in all 10 communities and urge them to cast their vote for Ned Wagner, Claudia Medina and Theresa Kelly. Also encourage them to reach out to everyone they know to do the same.

This is only the first step, but without it, NOTHING will change, again.

Although the race card has been played, hope Proviso Together gets enough votes. Considering the changing demographics in surrounding communities, knowing people often vote on name recognition, Medina may have a better chance.

I haven't seen the ballot, does it state what group each candidate represents?

Who played the race card? Not anyone from Proviso Together.

The ballot does not include the group names. You must choose Wagner, Medina AND Kelly among the seven candidates. The non-aligned candidate has done little to nothing to distinguish herself. Since she seems to have come out of the Melrose machine, it's likely just having her name on the ballot was the intention all along.

Welch needs a win for only one of his candidates to retain control of the D209 board for another two years!

The Review, where have you been?

Another flier — this one paid for something called the Proviso Township Ministers Alliance, which apparently doesn't exist (though there is a Proviso Township Ministerial Alliance) — seems to be playing the race card by specifically appealing to black voters. It was put on car windshields last Sunday while both sets of candidates were appearing at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood.

On one side of the flier is a photograph of a black teenage boy with the statement, "Shouldn't Those We Elect to Our School Board Understand Our Community?"

On the other side are photos of Wagner who is white and Medina who is Hispanic, along with photos of Harrell, Raines-Welch and Matthews, who are black. The flier claims that "Mayor Calderone is trying to take over the board by electing members of his community when they make up less than 10% of the entire district."

The flier urges people to vote for Harrell, Matthews and Raines-Welch. It says, "On April 7, Reject Anthony Calderone by Voting for Candidates Who Understand Our Community."

"It leaves out the fact that the third person on our ticket is Theresa Kelly, an African American woman from Maywood," Wagner said. "They're targeting African American people in Maywood, which is largely the people who go to Rock of Ages. And then they're pitting Forest Park against Maywood."

Do you think our State Rep will introduce meaningful legislation to address these blatantly dishonest and hard to trace election tactics?

Oh wait....

So how did the Proviso Together rally go? Did Mr Harris sing the song, was it very painful for him?:)))

He probably sang, it's a catchy tune and the Medina's energy is infectious. It was a RALLY! with music.

Donated to the Proviso Together campaign, wasn't a huge amount but a nice chunk o change. If I had known the "rally" would turn into another platform for Harris, wouldn't have made that donation. The Mayor also supports Proviso Together.

MATC supports Wagner and Medina. Which is NOT what Proviso Together is about. His partial endorsement represents, to me, just another calculated cleverness we'd be better off without. It allows D209 to remain under the control of those with no plan to fix anything!

This doesn't work without all three Proviso Together candidates, Wagner, Medina AND Kelly, joining Kevin McDermott on the D209 board as a new majority; committed to transformation of D209 into a district that truly serves its communities.

The Proviso Together group has been a beacon in the whole district. For the first time in such a long time, there is opportunity. To sustain and build on this vitally important task, waiting for the next election cycle is a bad option. The time is now.

I know what PROVISO TOGETHER is about, my grandkids lived to tell about it.

It was still a platform for Harris, that's not playing fair.

Proviso Together shared their platform well. They appeared at events for pretty much anyone who gave an opportunity to spread their message, anywhere in D209! How is that unfair?

Then someone needs to get online either here or in the Review from Proviso Together and state the same.

Stop with the logic, change your name crap, you sound like Bill D but he'll pat you on the back for it:)

No, SFAIK, it was a Harris event that included Novak and Proviso Together.

There was a "Progress" event at Healy's that used the Proviso Together logo, but only listed Medina & Wagner. As has all of "Progress'" mailers, signs etc.

PT held events in Westchester, Maywood, Hillside, Forest Park and has gone to all 10 communities to spread the word...

They've been busy! Is it enough? We'll know tomorrow night.
Every vote will matter for sure. I've waited a long time for this day.

I encourage everyone to tell everyone they know in D209 to Vote for Kelly, Medina & Wagner!

For a breath of fresh air, was impressed to read about the plans put together by the D209 winners. Apolitical, slow, methodical, well thought out, great to read it wouldn't be a "baby with the bath water" approach.
